Ryan Schwartz
As a communications agency, we are dedicated to harnessing the power of the media to share the truth, provide insight, and amplify the voice of those without financial or political power.

Hummingbird INK founder Ryan Schwartz has been helping progressive activists tell their stories for nearly a decade. As an independent consultant, he helps strengthen non-profit communications through strategic media relations, effective spokesperson training and smart copywriting.

Ryan’s clients improve the world by promoting respect for both people and the planet. He is thankful for the opportunity to work in a variety of social justice movements, including LGBT equality, environmental protection, violence reduction and education reform. His clients include Southern Poverty Law Center, GLSEN, Human Rights Campaign, Fenton, and Renewcomm.

Prior to becoming a consultant, Ryan was the National Outreach and Media Relations Manager for GroundSpark and their award winning Respect For All Project. As part of that work, he pioneered a rapid response system to protect LGBT-inclusive educational programs from political attacks, which he still manages today.

Ryan is an intuitive storyteller and produced the Media Institute of Southern Africa’s Community Radio Program of the Year in 2004 while working as an intern for an NGO in Namibia. He has a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Stanford University and currently lives in Portland, Oregon
